Grandparents rock!
We almost didn't do it. Keep our night-away date, that is. When it came time to leave Jesse was fine but we were both wondering...could WE really stand to be away from HER? With a push and a "Go!" The grandparents were out the door. We went to Berkeley and saw probably the most exciting college football game of the year, Cal vs Washington. Being on a college campus was just the right vibe to bring back that carefree "we're dating" feeling. Dinner in the city was at San Fran's A16 restaurant - rustic, delicious, cozy. As a wine pro I loved the wine list--all Italian wines from grapes and places you've never heard of...Etna Nerello Mascalese could just as easily be an opera or a hot sports car as a wine. Since I'm not drinking we asked for half-glasses of lots of different wines by the glass so John could try lots of tastes. And of course I got to smell them. The Vespa and Moscato whites were so fragrant I wanted to dab them behind my earlobes and wear 'em! It did make me look forward to my first taste of Champagne after the baby comes. We strolled around the SF Marina district to walk off the calories a bit then headed back to the hotel looking forward to a night and morning with no baby wakeup calls...

Bye bye Baby!
My husband John and I have spent a grand total of two nights away from 19 month old Jesse - both of them one nighters on our anniversary. So today is a big step - more for me than her. We are going to spend the next two nights in San Francisco, leaving the kids with Mimi and Pal, the beloved grandparents. She'll be fine, I know. I am the one already feeling the ache of being away. But I am also looking forward to the couple time to re-connect with my husband. When tomorrow morning comes and we get to just have it to ourselves, will we know what to do with ourselves? Oh I am sure we'll think of something! I just packed and it took 3 minutes - no counting diapers, no toting tetrapaks of backup milk, no zipper baggies of Cheerios, wow.
We are going to a San Francisco spot that's new to me - A16, which is known for its great wine list. It's not for the preggers one (me) but for John who is of course tasting for two these days! But I'll let you know how it is. Sunday night I am hosting a dinner for Amex Centurion card members at Fifth Floor. So there's a bit of work involved here, but professional role is to eat and drink for a living (hah hah!).

A little bit about keeping the "couple" in your marriage after baby.
Adventures in Breastfeeding
The most natural thing in the world? Maybe, but that doesn't mean it's a slam-dunk. A little bit about my successes and failures as the 24-hour Dyno-mat. Fill 'er up!
One Word for Motherhood?
Thousands of words come to mind when I think of all that Motherhood means, but here's my attempt to sum it up.

Welcome to a sleepy Sunday
...Meaning I'm sleepy. Football doesn't help, either. Don't get me wrong, I actually love watching football and so do the kids, but we call these game days "toe tag" days because the guys are happy to lie around like corpses, but who can afford to spend all that time on the couch loafing? Jesse just went down for a nap - yay! So now I am trying to work out on the elliptical and post at the same time. My extremely cute husband just came in and suggested there might be "something else physical" we could do. This is so typical of the daily trade-offs when that precious naptime comes...sleep, or cute husband?...finish manuscript, or cute husband:...workout, or cute husband? (now that I am pregnant I have chosen the workout at this moment lest the "eating for two" thing get the better of me; plus unless I can swing synchronized sleeping with the two babies once the next one comes, my workout career will be over for awhile.
